What will my contribution be used for?

    Paying Contributors

    We love words. We also believe that the writers of those words deserve compensation. We aim to provide a small honorarium for all contributors to the magazine.

    Website Maintenance

    The webpage you’re looking at right now costs money to maintain. Your contribution will help cover the cost of maintaining this site and the associated domain.

    Marketing

    We have a small marketing budget to get the word out about the magazine and events. Your contribution will allow us to expand our reach and keep our readers in the loop about new content and literary events.

    Graphic Design

    We are invested in producing a beautiful magazine. In the past, all our design has been done on the fly with a very DIY attitude. As we grow, we plan to invest in a skilled graphic designer to help with magazine layout.

    Stipends for Staff

    Our staff are all volunteers. While we love their willingness to pitch in with some good old fashion elbow grease, we would love to provide them each with a modest stipend to pay for the coffee they drink while reading and editing for the magazine.

    Event Costs

    As we grow our magazine off the page, we plan to host community-centered events. From open mic nights to writing workshops, your contributions will help create spaces for people to gather, write, and read.

  • At this time, unfortunately, no.

    We strive to someday become a nonprofit. At this time, we are registered as an LLC. Because of this, donations are not tax-deductible.

  • If you are unable to make a financial contribution, we would love to accept a donation of your time. If you are interested in getting involved, send an email to okiemodern@gmail.com.

  • Yes. There are all kinds of things we are hoping for. Some examples of in-kind donations would be:

    • Event space.

    • Speakers, microphones, and other audiovisual equipment.

    • Food and drinks for events.

    • Legal counsel as we move toward becoming a nonprofit.

    • Accounting assistance.
