Join us on Thursday, September 24th at 6 pm for a reading at Mixed-Use Space Tulsa. The event has been made possible by the MUST which generously donated its space, and Natty Gray of Cult Love Sound Tapes who will assist with sound systems.
Founded in early January of 2026, Okie Modernis a biannual literary and arts journal working to build creative community across the state of Oklahoma. Okie Modern’s second issue released Aug. 25. The issue includes the works of 18 Oklahoma artists and writers.
To celebrate the publication of this second issue, Okie Modern will be hosting a launch party at Mixed-Use Space Tulsa (MUST) on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m.
During the event, contributors will read excerpts from their writing, and copies of the summer issue will be available for purchase. The event will feature raffles for issues of the magazine, books and more. All guests will be given one free raffle ticket, and additional tickets can be purchased at MUST. All proceeds go to supporting the journal.
The event was organized by two members of the Okie Modern staff: Julie Packett, Okie Modern’s art editor, and Corinne Gaston, nonfiction editor. Both Gaston and Packett are Tulsa transplants who came to the city through Tulsa Remote and are deeply invested in building community in the place they have come to call home.
Elizabeth Wenger, Okie Modern’s founder, is excited about the opportunity for Okie Modern to expand off the page.
“Writing and reading can be such solitary acts,” Wenger said. “Okie Modern’s event will give members of the literary community a chance to meet, talk about literature and build connections. Our magazine hopes not to simply be a publication, but a center of community for writers and artists alike.”
